Review panel affirms listing of styrene as possible carcinogen

The National Toxicology Program was correct to list styrene as "reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen" in 2011, a science panel said yesterday. The review by the National Research Council, part of the National Academies, found the National Toxicology Program's decision to include the chemical was supported by "sufficient" evidence from animal studies and "convincing relevant information" in mechanistic studies. The program is part of the Department of Health and Human Services.
