Alaska salmon fishermen to receive $8M in federal disaster aid

Salmon fishermen in Alaska may soon get checks from the government after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced its approval of the state's plan to spend disaster relief funds. About $7.8 million will go to fishermen affected by a 2012 "fishery disaster" in the Yukon River, Kuskokwim River and Cook Inlet. Affected fishermen will receive applications for the funds in the mail, according to a news release from NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.
