Carper names new chief of staff, replacing staffer who's becoming wind lobbyist

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) today appointed a former journalist to run his Washington, D.C., office, filling a vacancy that opened up when his previous chief of staff decided to leave to become a wind industry lobbyist. Bill Ghent has been named Carper's new chief of staff, the senator announced this morning. He replaces Jim Reilly, who was in that role since 2007 before deciding to join the American Wind Energy Association this week (E&E Daily, April 8). Ghent joined Carper's office as communications director in 2003 and became legislative director in 2007.
