Report urges tighter rules to prevent occupational illness, accidents

More than 50,000 workers died in the United States in 2012 from workplace accidents andrnoccupational illnesses, some of which are the result of chemical exposure and environmentalrnfactors, a safety group said in a report released yesterday.rnThe report, called "Preventable Deaths: The Tragedy of Workplace Fatalities," released byrnthe National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, found that 4,383 men and women diedrnfrom workplace accidents in 2012 and estimated as many as 53,000 others succumbed to longtermrnoccupational illnesses.
