摘要

Exposure to indoor insecticides is associated with a greater risk for some childhood cancers, according to a new study. Researchers said a review of 16 studies of children who were exposed to toxic pesticides like indoor flea foggers, flea and tick pet collars, and other products found that exposure to indoor products was associated with a 47 percent increased risk for childhood lymphomas. Outdoor pesticides, meanwhile, were associated with a 26 percent increased risk for brain tumors. The research, which was published in the journal Pediatrics, showed that the risks of pesticides should be considered and managed, said the study's senior author, Chensheng Lu, an associate professor of environmental exposure biology at Harvard University (Nicholas Bakalar, New York Times, Sept. 21).
