This year is on track to be the warmest ever recorded, thanks to a combination of El Niño and human-generated climate change, a U.N. agency announced today. The Geneva-based World Meteorological Organization said global temperatures have increased by roughly 1 degree Celsius above preindustrial levels. Atmospheric levels of CO2 have also reached records in the Northern Hemisphere, crossing the 400- parts-per-million threshold for the first time, said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud.
