Sen. Lee prods 'absentee' Congress to put on 'big boy pants'

Republican Sen. Mike Lee today criticized an "absentee" Congress for failing to do its job. Speaking at a convention held by the conservative Federalist Society in Washington, D.C., the Utah lawmaker blasted the legislative branch's work ethic, its leadership's concentration of power and its failure to rein in the executive branch. "Within the federal government, Congress needs to put on Congress' big boy pants and do Congress' big boy jobs," said Lee, a first-term senator and tea party favorite who has been sharply critical of the Obama administration's regulations. And within Congress, individual members should be empowered, he said, "so that the power isn't just exercised by a few who rise to the top ranks of power within the House and within the Senate."
