Judge tosses Maui's GMO ban

A federal judge yesterday struck down Maui County, Hawaii's ban on farming genetically modified crops, saying the county does not have the authority to enforce such an ordinance. Both Monsanto Co. and Dow Chemical Co. unit Agrigenetics Inc. have research farms in Maui County. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Susan Oki Mollway said her decision was based solely on the jurisdictional issue at hand.
