Mining company places first fleet order for aluminum trucks

A Michigan mining company has ordered 35 of the new Ford F-150 trucks after testing the aluminum-body vehicles for the automaker three years ago. Ford Motor Co. gave two prototypes of the vehicle to mining company Barrick Gold USA in 2011. "Ford told us to treat it like any of our other trucks, maybe a little worse," said miner Mike Sena. "They told us to put it to work." So the company used the truck to drive over rough terrain, including potholes, and to haul compressors, drill bits and wooden stakes, ultimately driving 100,000 miles on one truck and 83,000 on the other.
