California voters support Attorney General Kamala Harris (D) in the race for the state's open U.S. Senate seat, but they also favor a well-known Republican who's not a candidate, according to a new opinion survey. In a Field Poll released today, 49 percent said they were inclined to vote for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (R) to replace Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) when she retires next year. That compared with the 46 percent who said they'd back Harris. The poll didn't ask voters to pick one candidate over another, just whether they were inclined to support each person named. The survey queried 972 likely voters over a long period of time, Jan. 26 to Feb. 16. The margin of error was 4.5 points.
