Russian officials are reassuring alarmed residents that blue- and orange-colored snow is not dangerous, even though some people have reported sore throats and a sweet taste in their mouths. Officials in the city of Chelyabinsk, just east of the Ural Mountains, said there have also been reports of blue water in the area, due to melting blue snow. The unusual shade of snow can be linked to Viteks, a nearby food products manufacturer, which said some of the powdered dye intended to color Easter eggs leaked out and colored the snow.
