It's all in the name for Grand Rapids wastewater plant

Grand Rapids, Mich., has moved to rename its wastewater treatment plant to reflect the facility's increased focus on sustainability. The City Commission yesterday approved renaming the Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Water Resource Recovery Facility. "Words are powerful, and the new name recognizes Grand Rapids as a leader in preserving the environment," Mayor George Heartwell. The plant was built in 1930 and serves a 125-square-mile area in western Michigan. Its administration building is heated and cooled through energy recovery, and a solar power project is planned (AP/Oklahoman, Dec. 9).
