The Senate confirmed acting U.S. Geological Survey Director Suzette Kimball almost two years after her nomination. The 17-year USGS veteran took charge of the agency in February 2013 after the departure of former Director Marcia McNutt. President Obama nominated the coastal geophysicist to lead USGS in January 2014, then waited until last October for a confirmation hearing. Kimball said it was an honor to lead "an organization rich with world-class scientists and innovative thinkers." "As a public servant, I am inspired by the commitment of USGS employees and the positive impacts our science has on addressing the needs of this nation," she said.
