The Obama administration is urging the Supreme Court to reject a challenge against Colorado's laws legalizing marijuana for adult use. In a document filed yesterday with the high court, Solicitor General Donald Verrilli told the justices that the challenge brought by other states doesn't meet the high bar for disputes that merit the Supreme Court's involvement. "This is not an appropriate case for the exercise of this court's original jurisdiction," Verrilli wrote. "Entertaining the type of dispute at issue here -- essentially that one state's laws make it more likely that third parties will violate federal and state law in another state -- would represent a substantial and unwarranted expansion of this court's original jurisdiction."
