The U.S. Department of Agriculture has begun working on a vaccine for the bird flu, as a deadly strain of the virus continues to spread. Since March, more than 6.7 million turkeys and chicken in the Midwest have succumbed to the H5N2 strain of the virus. USDA is working on a "seed strain" to target the disease that would be provided to drug manufacturers, who would make the vaccines. It has not yet been determined which birds would get the vaccine, how much it would cost or how effective it would be.
