FWS weighs listing for a 'most uncharismatic' D.C. resident

A shrimp-like crustacean that survives on the decaying leaves of Washington, D.C., could soon gain protection under the Endangered Species Act. The Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to list the Kenk's amphipod as an endangered species almost 50 years after it was first discovered in Rock Creek Park. The colorless, eyeless amphipod is found primarily inside the Capital Beltway, spending much of its time underground.
