Christie announces gas tax increase

After a battle with Democratic leaders, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has accepted the first tax increase during his seven years in office. In an effort to replenish the state's Transportation Trust Fund, Christie agreed last week to raising the gas tax by 23 cents per gallon. The fund pays for improvements to roads, rails and bridges.
