Denali works to preserve historic cabin

Over 90 years ago, Denali National Park's first superintendent built a cabin by hand. Now Denali's park staff is doing what it can to preserve it. Park historian Erik Johnson praised Henry Karstens, the first superintendent, for building the cabin. "He was highly independent and skilled in ways that allowed him to adapt and thrive in the harsh northern climate. His experience and understanding of the local conditions made him the ideal choice as the first superintendent," Johnson said.
