Enviro groups threaten to sue EPA over Texas emissions

Nine environmental and community groups today formally threatened to sue U.S. EPA, alleging that the agency has failed to address a petition filed last year over air pollution from Texas power plants. In the May 2015 petition, the Environmental Integrity Project and other organizations said that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had illegally allowed 19 coal-fired power plants to exceed permit limits for emissions during startups, shutdowns and malfunctions (Greenwire, May 27, 2015). They also charged that state regulators made the changes without going through the proper channels to allow for public feedback.
