Los Angeles has hundreds of active oil and gas wells within its 503 square miles, but a legally required position to oversee all of them hasn't been filled full-time for decades. Now, in the wake of a large gas leak in the northern part of the city that has driven thousands from their homes, activists are pushing for a dedicated petroleum administrator for Los Angeles, and they have support from the city government.
