Renewable energy compromise bill passes Legislature

The Massachusetts Legislature passed a bill this weekend requiring the state to significantly increase its purchase of offshore wind, hydropower and other renewable energy. The bill was sent to Gov. Charlie Baker (R) for approval late last night. However, some senators were not entirely satisfied with the bill. "I don't think that where we ended up is nearly as strong as where the Senate was," said Massachusetts state Sen. Ben Downing (D), who is the Senate chairman of the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee. "But both the administration and the House had a far narrower view, and that made for a rather difficult negotiation."
