Weavers spurn toxic dyes, embrace natural traditions

Textile artists in Mexico are increasingly turning back to natural dyes - which use plant and insect extracts rather than synthetic chemicals - in an effort to protect the environment and keep indigenous traditions alive. The natural materials are more expensive and often fade faster than other types of dye, making synthetic colors a more sustainable option in some cases.
