Police rescue 27 Galapagos tortoises from bus

Police in Peru rescued 27 baby Galapagos tortoises from a group of traffickers trying to take them to Europe, authorities said yesterday. The highly endangered tortoises from the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador were found in a cardboard box on a bus on its way from northern Peru to the capital Lima, the National Forest and Wildlife Service (Serfor) said.
