Sea otters' recovery in southeast Alaska from the brink of extinction is fueling conflict between conservationists and the Alaskans who depend on shellfish.rnState efforts to bring back the marine mammals have proved successful, bringing population numbers in southeast Alaska to more than 20,000. But the urchins, crabs, clams and sea cucumbers that were abundant while the otters were gone are now dwindling.
