Xcel plan to invest in renewables, cut coal wins approval

Xcel Energy Colorado plans to Increase power produced by wind and solar while getting rid of a third of Its coal-fired generation. State regulators approved the plan this week. The company says It will cut 60 percent of Its carbon emissions, Increase renewables to 55 percent of its power by 2026 and reduce customers' costs by $213 million. Two coal plants in Pueblo will be phased out a decade sooner than the earlier date of 2035. Xcel said it will try to find jobs for the displaced workers. A written approval from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission is expected the first week in September.
