Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao is in Beijing this week to meet with the Chinese Ministry of Transport on infrastructure, technology and safety.rnChao will co-chair the ninth annual U.S.-China Transportation Forum, a gathering of 160 government officials, academics and industry stakeholders. She will also participate in bilateral talks Friday with Minister Li Xiaopeng.rnA DOT spokesman said topics of discussion will include "emergency response and disaster recovery, safe transport of hazardous materials, port development and maritime transportation, automated and connected technology, rail safety and overall infrastructure development."rnEnvironmentalists expressed concern that Chao would press the Chinese to weaken their fuel efficiency rules, which are currently more stringent than the United States' corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards.
