A woman who played a major role in exposing the Flint water crisis was one of seven recipients globally of the Goldman Environmental Prize for grass-roots environmental activism.rnLeeAnne Walters persisted in showing regulators bottles of brown water from her kitchen tap, despite being rebuffed by the administration of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R). Finally, with the help of researchers at Virginia Tech and a local physician, Walters helped reveal in 2015 that Flint's water system was indeed contaminated with lead.
