Watchdog: Enforcement inspections, monitoring plummeted

EPA's inspector general today issued another damning report showing the agency's pursuit of polluters violatingfederal air, water and toxics laws has plummeted.From 2006 to 2018, EPA's enforcement office reported a decline in inspections and other pollution monitoringactivities, causing the agency and public to have "increasingly less knowledge about compliance withenvironmental statutes, and as such, they had less information about whether facilities emitted pollutants thatcould be harmful to people or the environment."That lack of clarity makes it particularly difficult to combat environmental justice issues, one of the Bidenadministration's regularly stated priorities.
