Republicans remove Liz Cheney from leadership post

House Republicans today removed Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney from the No. 3 position in leadership for her refusal to support false claims perpetuated by former President Trump about election fraud and her desire to hold him accountable for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The House Republican Conference by voice vote this morning removed Cheney from the conference chair post she has held since 2019. The conference will vote as soon as Friday on a replacement. Trump loyalist Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who has taken moderate positions on energy and the environment, is strongly favored to get the job (E&E Daily, March 12).
