Businesses urge Mich. governor to go all-in on EVs

A business coalition is urging Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to add her state to a growing number focused on vehicle electrification. In a letter sent today, 58 businesses, including global vehicle manufacturers, asked the Democratic governor to join the Multi-State MHD Zero Emission Vehicle Memorandum of Understanding, which would commit Michigan to ensuring at least 30% of all new trucks and buses sold are zero-emission vehicles by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Fifteen states and the District of Columbia have signed onto the agreement. "We rely on trucks to keep our businesses going every day," Kris Spaulding, owner of Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids and Broad Leaf Brewery & Spirits in Kentwood, said in a statement. "We feel strongly that those trucks should be electric in the very near future, and we encourage Gov. Whitmer to take action to accelerate the transition."
