The Biden administration today announced plans to probe the offshore wind industry's interest in developingwind farms in the Gulf of Mexico.The Interior Department plans to publish a "request for information" Friday, the department told E&E News. It willofficially invite offshore wind developers to stake their interest in the region, which experts say lags behind therapidly expanding offshore wind market in the blustery northeast Atlantic, due to its calmer gusts.The request for information is a first step from the federal government in potentially auctioning renewable energyleases in the Gulf, a clean energy pivot for waters that currently produce the lion's share of the country's offshoreoil and gas resources.
