Trump balks at congressional oversight of stimulus loans

President Trump is taking issue with congressional oversight provisions in the new $2.2 trillion economic stimuluslaw.Democrats fought to include those provisions to ensure transparency of new massive federal lending programs,including for the benefit of energy companies.In a statement released after he signed the third coronavirus response bill Friday, Trump said he would ignore aprovision creating a new special inspector general for pandemic recovery (SIGPR) within the TreasuryDepartment to manage audits and investigations of newly authorized loans and investments.Specifically, Trump is objecting to authority given the SIGPR to request information from other governmentagencies and report to Congress "without delay" any refusal of such a request that the new IG deems"unreasonable."
