The United States could waste less food and fight climate change by putting grocery stores closer together,according to a new study.Researchers at Cornell University in New York said consumers throw less food away the closer they live togrocery stores and that the right density of supermarkets can make a noticeable difference in food waste -a major contributor to the atmospheric carbon that's fueling a warming climate.The study recently published in the journal Manufacturing & Service Operations Management is one of thefirst of its kind in the United States, said lead researcher Elena Belavina.
