摘要

Linda Garcia of Washington state was instrumental in stopping a planned oil terminal through her neighborhoodin 2017 — along with neighborhoods in five other states — and today she was awarded the 2019 GoldmanEnvironmental Prize for her environmental stand against a billion-dollar oil company. The Tesoro Savage project planned to move 11 million gallons of oil every day from North Dakota westward, in atrain that measured a mile and half long and would transport the oil to the Port of Vancouver in Washington. Thefinal project would have been the largest oil terminal in North America, creating an estimated five times as muchpollution as the Keystone XL pipeline.
