Tribe, greens appeal exploration near Alaska eagle preserve

Alaska Natives and environmental groups have challenged a recent federal court ruling allowing mineralexploration near a bald eagle preserve in southeastern Alaska.The Chilkat Indian Village of Klukwan, the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, Lynn Canal Conservation andRivers Without Borders filed an appeal yesterday in the 9th U.S. Court of Appeals after the U.S. District Court forthe District of Alaska tossed their 2017 lawsuit in March (Greenwire, Dec. 5, 2017).
