Public lands language lures 'genius' to protect species

The sprawling public lands bill approved by the Senate yesterday offers some new environmental enticements,including this one:Save a species, win a prize.Among its myriad other provisions, the 600-plus-page bill establishes the "Theodore Roosevelt Genius Prize forthe protection of endangered species." One or more of the prizes are to be presented annually "for atechnological advancement" that protects endangered species.
