Vertical Accretion of the Earth's Crust

Vertical accretion is considered to be a combination of processes and phenomena related to the interaction between the Earth's shells. It is shown that homogenization, sialization, and granitization of rocks occur at interfaces between the Earth's layers and shells (Moho, lower crust-upper crust, basement-sedimentary cover, upper crust-hydrosphere and atmosphere) as a result of physicochemical (structural and compositional) interactions between the materials. Some factors and mechanisms responsible for sialization of rocks and formation of new volumes of the granitic-metamorphic layer are discussed in this paper. The main conclusion is that interaction between the Earth's shells plays a substantial role in the growth of the consolidated continental crust.
