A Major Achievement of Russian Science (Review and Comments on the Book Introduction to Tectonophysics)

In the last 10-15 years, researchers both from Russia and other countries recognized more and more distinctly that the paradigm of tectonics of lithospheric plates that has dominated for already almost half a century cannot pretend to be a global geodynamic model. It became clear that such a model may be created only with consideration for deep geodynamics, in particular, by using the up-to-date results of seismic tomography. Some attempts in this direction have already been made, for example, by Japanese scientists in 1994. Despite some valuable results, this attempt hardly may be viewed as successful.
