Gone but not Forgotten (On the 115th Anniversary of the Birth of Academician Nikolai Sergeevich Shatsky)

In the book of Academician A.S. Monin entitled Distinguished Russian People (2002), Nikolai Sergeevich Shatsky is presented as an outstanding geologist, in the same league as the most eminent figures of Russian science. He was born at the end of the 19th century, on August 28, 1895. His life was not so long-65 years; he was buried in Vvedenskoe Cemetery in the summer of 1960. Shatsky's first scientific work "The Balyklei Gra-ben and Disjunctive Dislocations of the Southern Volga Region" was published in 1922 by Herald of Moscow Mining Academy. Nikolai Sergeevich was about 30 years old at the time. Around that time, he authored papers on the stratigraphy and tectonics of the northern Donets Basin, overthrusts in the Black Mountains and Northern Caucasus, and an exotic work about a find of Productus mesolobus Phill. in the Moscow Basin.
