The Joint Conference of the 5th International Symposium on the Tibetan Plateau and the 24th Himalaya-Karakorum-Tibet Workshop was held on August 10-15, 2009 in Beijing, China. The conference was conducted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Ministry of Land and Resources of China (MLR), and Tibet Autonomous Region People's Government (TAR). The direct organizers were the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP/CAS); the Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (IG/CGAS); the China Society on the Tibet Plateau (CSTP); the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (MST); the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNR/CAS); and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
