The discussers offer important points to consider and we thank the discussers for their comments and for their agreement about the necessary changes to ASTM D 6767.rnThe discussers' comment about "jetting" the air through a small orifice is interesting. They recommended fluid be left around thernperimeter of the sample. We did not examine the specimen under high magnification to verify all fluid was removed from the sample. However, we noticed that the flow rate of air through the wet condition eventually equaled that of the dry condition once a certain pressure was achieved.rnThe discussers also described a need to vent the manometer to the outflow of the sample holder. This may be a good approach in case of high pressures, as venting the manometer to the atmosphere may create discrepancies. We tested our specimens under relatively low pressures and we believe that our testing conditions were appropriate. Similar suggestions were made when we contacted a technician of the company that provided flow meters to the University of Washington laboratories.
