摘要

Management of natural hazards plays an important role in societal planning as well as for private stakeholders. Sustainable societal developments necessitate that risks due to natural hazards are consistently assessed, properly understood, transparently communicated and that their management is optimised in view of their significant societal impacts. To achieve this is not a trivial task; it necessitates a thorough understanding of the involved hazard processes and how these may generate consequences in a rather complex interaction between nature and human activities. Moreover, it necessitates that models of the hazards and the scenarios leading to consequences are formulated and that the relevant uncertainties associated with these are consistently accounted for.
