This substantial volume is the fourth in a series, edited by Button and Nijkamp, which seeks to offer interdisciplinary perspectives on the intellectual development of planning theory and practice. The series reflects a perceived need to now take stock of the achievements and to offer constructive critical assessment of the real potential of planning, following important developments over the last 10-15 years. This volume is edited primarily by David Plane and Lawrence Mann, both from the University of Arizona, USA, but also with a series overview input from Button and Nijkamp. The US base is influential in the particular perspective adopted for this overview of the classics of late twentieth century regional planning.
