The Forest Wars

This book explores the dynamics of contemporary debates over forest futures in Australia. The central question is: 'Given Australia's plantation resources, why does the forest conflict persist?' (p. 5). It argues that there is no need for this as plantation resources can meet national timber and paper needs, and supply an export woodchip industry. A flourishing forest industry can therefore exist side-by-side with programs to end native forest logging, as is already the case in Queensland and Western Australia.
