Water Policy in Australia: The Impact of Change and Uncertainty was first published in 2008 and is now in paperback. The book attempts to provide a comprehensive account of critical water issues in Australia. Indeed, its boldly stated objective is to enable readers to be able to formulate coherent responses to some of the most pressing questions regarding water policy. A book that provides a comprehensive overview of water policy in Australia fulfils an important need but faces a number of challenges. The first challenge is capturing the breadth of issues. Australia is a land of contrasts: the rivers in the north are very different to those in the south; urban water issues are different to those in the country; and our capital cities in the east use different water sources to those in the west. The second, and perhaps the biggest, challenge is for a book to remain contemporary when so many aspects of water policy are changing.
