We are saddened, but honored, to be the guest editors of this special issue of Geographical Analysis in memory of Dr. Charles S. ReVelle. Known fondly by many as Chuck, he was a dissertation advisor to two of us, and a mentor, colleague, and dear friend to all three of us. Chuck received his doctorate in civil engineering from Cornell University in 1967. He served as an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Systems Engineering at Cornell University before joining the Department of Geography and Environmental Engineering (DOGEE) at The Johns Hopkins University in 1971. He was promoted to full professor in 1975, and spent the remainder of his career there. He was a groundbreaking scholar and beloved teacher.
