Theory and Applications for Geographic Information Science and Technology

This is a compilation of lecture notes on advanced topics in spatial statistics, with a focus on eigenvector spatial filtering (ESF). The book is given a sense of authenticity by the accomplishments of its authors: Griffith is recognized as a founder of the ESF method, and Chun is the author of the R function SpatialFiltering that made the technique accessible to a wide user community. Compared with Griffith's earlier book that systematically introduces the ESF method (Griffith 2003) and the popular R book by Bivand, Pebesma, and Gomez-Rubio (2008) that has a short section on ESF, this book is a step forward in disseminating a widely acclaimed methodology for dealing with spatial autocorrelations.
