Wandering through the alley streets of Fells Point in Baltimore today, one is apt to see a wide variety of people: the increasingly Hispanic demographic of these neighbourhoods remains peppered with white professionals and also still includes a few white and black working class homeowners who've lived in the area all of their lives. Salsa music vies with the sound of helicopters droning overhead, and on a Sunday afternoon the smell of cooking pork, perhaps overlaying the faint tinge of garbage or stale beer, lies heavy in the narrow streets.
