MicroRNA-146a, a Good Biomarker and Potential Therapeutic Target for Rheumatoid Arthritis

We read with great interest the article "MicroRNA-146a expression in rheumatoid arthritis: association with tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and disease activi-ty," published in Genet Test Mol Biomarkers, indicating that microRNA-146a (miR-146a) expression was significantly higher in rheumatoid arthritis (EA) patients than in controls, and was positively correlated with TNF-a, erythrocyte sedi-mentation rate (ESR), disease activity scores in 28 joints (DAS 28) in Egyptians (Abou-Zeid et al., 2011). These findings suggest that miR-146a may be a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for RA.
