Background: Nearly 1,600 architectural practices took part in the international competition to design the museum. This was narrowed down to 20 finalists, with Bartenbach LichtLabor involved in tour of those projects, including the winning design by Dublin-based architect Heneghan Peng.rnFacts: Scheduled to open in 2013, the museum complex is 8-1,000 sq m and will house 100,000 artefacts, including 3,500 from the Tutankhamen collection. Estimated cost isrnsouth axis, the overall design is based on a central vanishing point from which convergence lines fan out, reaching the geometric centre of the three huge pyramids at Giza, 2.5km away, and also oriented to the surrounding area. The galleries are situated inside these convergence lines.
